Abstract. Extensible 3D (X3D) Graphics is the open standard for real-time 3D communication. Developed by the Web3D Consortium and certified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), X3D is a royalty-free file format and run-time player specification that is compatible with many 3D technologies. X3D is also designed for reuse of content and archivable publication, making it particularly well suited for government use. Attendees in this hands-on workshop will use several tools and applications for networked X3D virtual environments. Finally a 10-point "report card" will assess X3D suitability readiness for federally sponsored online virtual worlds.
